Welcome to A Cut Above Uniforms
Pilot shirts and pilot uniforms designed by a fellow pilot.
After 9 years working for the airlines, wearing uncomfortable low quality pilot shirts, I was frustrated and wanted to develop something better for all of us.
I was tired of paying a tailor to fix my ill-fitted and supposedly tapered or fitted pilot shirts. I'd had enough of adjusting excess fabric around my waist, arriving at the crew loung already wrinkled, and fed up with an uncomfortable collar that made me feel as though I was serving a prison sentence.
As work continued on improving the men's and women's pilot shirts, some frustrating delays allowed time to consider other items we could improve. A laundry list was formed and we began working on solutions. After a couple years of development by a team of Los Angeles designers, we offer a truly superior line of pilot apparel.
Where most companies diversify in search of new revenue sources, we have taken time to make each item better. Although proud of what has been accomplished, we want to hear from you so we can keep improving. Located in the apparel design capital of the world, we use design professionals to assist in translating the techniques of top firms to our product line.
A Cut Above rejects the premise that pilot uniforms are basic commodity garments which only need to offer the most basic functions of clothing. Pilots spend more time in their uniforms than any other garment in the closet. These items should make you look and feel good. Poor fitting pilot uniforms and accessories are detrimental to pilot comfort and appearance and yes, it does matter. Pilot Uniforms made to fit everyone end up fitting very few Not all people have the same proportions. Customers need choices.
We reject the premise that we should always choose the low price option in our operations. Although tempting to do, it is important that we build trust with our customers. If a more affordable option is available but does not meet our higher standard, we will not sell it.
We reject the belief that we could just make some of our shirts smaller and label them as “women’s”. The women need ladies pilot shirts, pants, ties, and blazers.
Pilot uniforms should not be the same quality as a security guard. Airline pilot uniforms should be a mark of distinction and reflect their position in society. All the industry’s problems don’t change the fact that it takes a lot of determination and hard work to become a professional pilot.
I hope you enjoy our shirts and accessories.
Sincerely,
Chris Pilarski
